a few pictures from the farm and a list

I’m still trying to learn how to use my zoom lens, and I was practicing this morning. Sally kept walking closer and closer. I think I have a picture that is nearly all beak. In this one you can see her pretty blue eyes. Er, eye.

Sally

The dogs run through the dew and drink out of Sally’s pool in the morning, then go lay in the dirt, so they’re always a bit disheveled looking in the morning. Here’s Winston’s dirty face:

There has been quite the chicken soap opera going on around these parts, but it will take several entries to share that tale. In the meantime, meet Colonel Sanders:

Something I really need to work on: check the white balance before taking pictures! I was so concerned about my aperture and shutter speed that I forgot that the last time I used my camera I was taking pictures in the kitchen in the evening and had the white balance set on incandescent. Doh! So that’s why everything is blue. That’s also not the first time I’ve done that. When will I learn?

And now, a list of movies that should not be viewed on an empty stomach:

  • Big Night
  • Eat Drink Man Woman
  • Howard’s End
  • Mostly Martha

Do you have any to add to the list? I’m just trying to serve the public here at Hey Lucy, and prevent any unnecessary hunger pangs.

I watched Mostly Martha last night, but it was after dinner, so I was okay. Next on my Netflix queue is No Reservations. I’m going to see how it compares to Mostly Martha. I usually hate Hollywood remakes (for example, Shall We Dance, the Japanese version, is far superior to the U.S. version), so I have very low expectations.

  1. Nice pics!
Add to the list “Something’s Cooking”. Really good movie about ethnic cuisine, Thanksgiving, and universal crazy families.
    Have a great day!

  2. Cool photos- even if they are very whitish. haha! I love the yellow eyeliner that your goose has on. All your pets are adorable. The only “foodish movie” I can think of is the one where Sarah Michelle Geller plays a cook in small restaurant with a “special” crab. I am not describing it well, but I really like the flick. There is something that happens to the foods she prepares when she experiences different emotions. Everytime I see it, it makes me think of how it really is true that what your feeling affects the food you are preparing. Have you ever been angry while you are making dinner? My family knows by tasting the food if I am mad. It just doesn’t taste good. Anyway, cute movie and it always makes me want crab or lobster bisque, or creamy chocolate things…. I’ll think of the name…..

  3. To be honest, I like the white background. The only photo where it doesn’t work for me if the duck, but that I believe, is because the duck is white……….keep experimenting! Are you on flickr??

  4. I love the blue hue in these photos! Winston’s hair is growing back so fast!

  5. OH movies that make me hungry: Eat Drink Man Woman, The Wedding Banquet, Like Water for Chocolate.

  6. Great photos and super cute blog. Would you like to exchange links?

  7. I’ve been debating a White Balance issue on Ravelry. Checking White Balance and ISO is definitely a key step in manual photography. But the pics look great nonetheless.

  8. For me the list would include Babette’s Feast and Bella, along with a box of tissues.

  9. Ok, I want to live where you live! May I?
Also, although it is an older movie…for some reason “Moonstruck” ALWAYS makes me hungry!!

  10. OH NO!!!! This is what I yelled when I came across your blog just now! I found you from your comment on Posie Gets Cozy – and you are just what I need – another wonderfully looking, interesting, blog-I-want-to-read, blog!!! So I am going to add you to my list of great blogs to read when I have lots of spare time! (grin!!!) And I am so excited to find out about what you have to say about digital pictures too – that is you with the you and your sister blog, right? I couldn’t find where you are from – you don’t live anywhere in the Midwest do you? Like near Michigan? Do you ever talk about Photoshop Elements 5? I have never been able to find that line graph thingey that I see on “how-to’s”, and wonder where it is hiding?
Oh, and one other thing in common – I took all of my (first born and only)son’s high school graduation pictures (it was outside in the football stadium) using the incandescent setting and they were terribly blue! I did fiddle with a few to try and get them to look better, but I didn’t know what I was doing really, and still couldn’t find that graph thing…… anyway – I know where you are coming from!
Okay – I better go – but I will definitely be back!
    Hugs from Michigan – Diane
