autumn making

I have been knitting lots and lots. A few things are finished, including the sweater I started in October. I love, love, love it!

image from www.flickr.comI originally wanted to find some vintage buttons, but had to settle for the wooden ones from Jo-ann. I think I'm okay with them, and I've gotten lots of compliments on them when I've worn my sweater. No one mentions the sweater, just that they like the buttons. That's okay, I love my sweater 🙂 How cute is that pocket?

I was also in the mood for making a little something with some Malabrigo lace, and whipped up a Damson shawlette in pink.

It's so soft and light, and the pattern was nice and easy and quick. I might have even cast on another one with some Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in the Tern colorway. It's a nice purple-y charcoal grey.

I even took a little break from all that yummy yarn and did a little embroidery. My sister gave me some vintage embroidery patterns a long time ago, and I finally got around to using one. I'm not sure how old they are, but the transfer ironed on perfectly. What kitchen doesn't need some chicken tea towels?

So now I'm planning some vacation and holiday knitting. I am super, super excited, because I have the whole month of December off, and for part of that time I'm going to South Africa to see my parents! So now I have to figure out what I am going to knit for the hours and hours of flight time I have ahead of me! Oh, and I should have lots of fun photos to share when I get back!

  1. I totally forgot about those embroidery patterns, but now it is all coming back to me and I remember buying them at an antique store. They turned out really cute. So is your sweater, even if the only compliments you’ve gotten so far are on the buttons. I actually think I have bought those exact same buttons, too. And speaking of JoAnn, the last time I went in there, they had literally hundreds of bolts of fleece, patterned and solid colored, lining the perimeters of the store and on shelves in the middle. It was the most I have ever seen in my life. No exageration. Fleece blanket making season is here! Still waiting to see you feature one of those on here.;-)

  2. Just for that I am going to make a fleece blanket with knotted fringe for that new baby of yours. And you will love it.

  3. Your sweater is stunning. I love the gradations of color in the yarn. Very yummy. And I just picked up Ysolda’s book and have had my eye on that Damson shawl. I’m thinking that my mom needs one for Christmas. Glad to hear it worked up well. If only I had the wrist power to knit 24 hours a day… I already have at least 4 projects in the queue that need to be done by the 24th. Enjoy your month off.

  4. The sweater is beyond fabulous and the pocket is so very cute. The color is wonderful. I’d love to see a picture of you wearing it! Love it! The buttons are great, but it’s the sweater, people, the sweater! :o)

  5. I love, love, LOVE the sweater. I really think I need to make one of those. I love the color choice, and the demarcation lines of the skeins of yarn, and everything about it. Gorgeous and fun. I will use another yarn so as not to be too much of a copycat, but your version is definitely the benchmark 🙂
I also like the shawls…I’m coming around to that Damson pattern. At first it seemed a little plain (I’m always doing lacy things), but I very much like the look of the ones you made.
Also also, super excited to see you using Madelinetosh yarn 🙂 It’s my absolute favorite, and I’m working on a Tern TML project of my own right now: Henslowe.
Hope your Africa trip is going awesomely! I can’t wait to see your pictures.

say something nice...
